I work one-on-one on Common App personal statements, supplemental essays and scholarship essays, drawing on years of freelance journalism — including my time covering high school sports for The Times, where I interviewed hundreds of student-athletes.
Everything from a single brainstorming session to full start-to-finish coaching is available. The ideas and the voice stay the student’s. My job is helping them find it, sharpen it, and push back where it’s not working yet.

Sometimes the ideas are already there and the writing just isn’t doing them justice. I can take an existing draft and make it clearer and tighter without losing what the writer meant to say — structural editing, line editing, cutting what doesn’t need to be there, and a final proofread.
My work has run in The New York Times, Newsday, Blitz, Hardball and Exercise & Health. The approach is always the same: research the subject, ask good questions, find the angle that actually matters, and tell it without wasting the reader’s time.
