MY WRITING

I’ve built a career on asking questions, finding the story, and getting people to keep reading.

My work has appeared in The New York Times, Newsday, Blitz, Hardball and Exercise & Health, along with years of columns, newsletters and organizational writing. My time at The Times also included years covering high school sports — reporter and editor both, talking with student-athletes by the hundreds.

Different subjects, different audiences — same job every time: find the part that’s actually interesting, and tell it well.

"I've spent my career finding stories. Let me help your student find theirs."

WHAT FREELANCE JOURNALISM HAS TO DO WITH A COLLEGE ESSAY

More than you’d think. Freelance writing taught me how to find a story. Years covering high school sports for The Times taught me how to get one out of a teenager specifically — because kids, like most people, don’t lead with the most interesting thing about themselves. You have to ask, then ask again, until something comes out sideways that’s actually worth writing about.

That’s the same instinct I bring to essay coaching.
